Asset Community is proud to support the Women in Security initiative — a collaborative program delivered in partnership with Asset College (RTO 31718) and key national security employers. The initiative is designed to create structured, supported pathways for women entering the security industry — an industry that has historically been underrepresented by women, but one that is actively changing.
Across Australia, the security industry is experiencing significant growth, driven by increased demand across retail, events, critical infrastructure, transport, healthcare, and private sector organisations. At the same time, employers in the sector are actively seeking to diversify their workforces — and for good reason. Research consistently shows that diverse teams deliver better outcomes, and in security specifically, women bring capabilities and approaches that complement and strengthen existing teams.
What the Women in Security initiative involves
The Women in Security initiative brings together three components that, combined, create a genuine pathway from training into sustainable employment:
Women-only training cohorts
Asset College delivers women-only security training cohorts, led by a female trainer, providing an environment specifically designed to support women new to the security industry. These cohorts deliver the nationally recognised Certificate II in Security Operations — the qualification required to obtain a security licence across Australia.
Training in a women-only cohort creates a learning environment where participants can build confidence, ask questions freely, and develop the skills and professional identity that translate into effective performance on the job. It recognises that for many women considering a career change into security, the environment in which they learn matters as much as the content of the training.
Employer connections and industry engagement
Asset College's Employer Connections® program provides graduates with direct access to security industry employers who are actively hiring. These events — run in a structured, speed-interview format — give Women in Security participants real-time interaction with employers including national security companies, government agencies, and specialist operators.
Asset Community's role in the employment services component of this initiative is to support participants beyond the training itself — helping with career planning, job readiness, and connecting women to employers who have made a genuine commitment to inclusive hiring.
Ongoing support and community
The security industry, like many industries, can feel isolating for those who are new to it — particularly for women entering a workforce where they may be in the minority. Asset Community's involvement in the initiative reflects our broader commitment to belonging as a foundation for sustainable employment. We support participants not just into their first role, but through the transition into it.
The employers behind the initiative
The Women in Security initiative is supported by key national security employers who have committed to participating in training connections, providing employment pathways for program graduates, and contributing to an industry culture that actively welcomes and supports women. Employer participants include national security providers and organisations drawn from Asset College's extensive industry network, which has been built over more than twenty years of security training across Australia.
If your organisation is interested in participating as an employer partner, please get in touch with Asset Community or contact Asset College directly.

Women in Security at Asset College →Why this matters
The security industry in Australia is large, growing, and essential. It employs tens of thousands of Australians and plays a critical role in keeping communities, infrastructure, and individuals safe. Yet women remain significantly underrepresented across most security roles — not because they lack the capability or the interest, but because the pathways into the industry have not always been designed with them in mind.
A diverse security workforce is a stronger security workforce. Women bring different skills, perspectives, and approaches that make security teams more effective. The question has never been whether women belong in security — it's whether the industry has done enough to make them feel welcome.
The Women in Security initiative is one practical answer to that question. By combining quality training in a supportive environment with genuine employer connections and post-placement support, it creates the conditions for women to not just enter the security industry but to thrive in it.
The momentum is building
Across Australia, more women are stepping into security careers. The shift is visible in training cohorts, on industry floors, and in the conversations employers are having about the teams they want to build. The Women in Security initiative is part of that momentum — and Asset Community is committed to supporting it through our employment services work and our broader mission of creating pathways out of disadvantage and into sustainable participation.
We look forward to sharing more about outcomes and opportunities as the initiative develops. If you are a woman considering a career in security, or an organisation looking to get involved, we encourage you to reach out.
